The First Step

The weekend is the weekend of the St Luke’s Half Marathon and 5k. An event with great history in the Lehigh Valley, currently put on by the Lehigh Valley Road Runners. Many people participate in the event year after year and several are patients in my practice. The Half Marathon is a very popular race distance, which often sees registration of women in greater numbers than men. 13.1 miles is a long way to go but still a very achievable goal.

If you’ve never run a half marathon and you’re not registered for this years…. well, you’re too late.

However, there is a lot more going on this weekend than a half marathon and it maybe just the perfect opportunity for you to take your first step, in doing your first half marathon.

In addition to the half marathon on Sunday, there is a 5k, which is also full. However, and especially for those of you who have never raced, there is the Family Fun Walk. This event starts at 8:20, right after the start of the races and is 1.5 miles. Although you must register, you can do that race morning and it is free. Come on out. See what all of the excitement is about, walk your fitness 1.5 miles and as I like to say… “drink the cool aid”.  Maybe next year, you’ll find yourself racing 13.1 miles.
